What is fear?
Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or be threatening.
What is excitement?
A feeling of great enthusiasm and eagerness.
These feelings are one in the same and they release the same chemicals in our brains. Maybe you were going for a job interview and you felt scared, but really it was just excitement. That feeling of anxiety in the pit of your stomach. People sometimes even get sick from it. Or maybe you’re doing something new or going somewhere for the first time and you’re getting that anxious feeling that something bad will happen. A lot of times we internalize that fear with the itty-bitty shitty committee in our heads that tells us we are scared to death and that everything will go bad or be negative, when really we are just excited.
We all know that these beliefs in our head are false. But what drives them? A lot of the time our beliefs are driven by F.E.A.R.
What if you could change that fear reaction to something else?
You can change it!
Here are 4 tips for reducing the fear in your head from the itty-bitty shitty committee:
1. Take a deep breath in and exhale slowly. Ask yourself:
2. Will I get hurt doing this?
3. Will I die from doing this?
4. Am I experiencing fear or excitement from this?
By asking these 3 questions to yourself before hand, you will help to determine whether you’re feeling fear or excitement. The answer will help to reduce your stress.
Until next time,
